Welcome and About the AHPA Botanical Identity References Compendium

Please sign in for access to the Botanical Identity References Compendium system.

The American Herbal Products Association is proud to present the AHPA Botanical Identity References Compendium to interested beta testers.

The system is currently in open beta, and new subscriptions and user accounts are being provided to industry members and professionals expressing an interest in participating at this stage. Access will later be made more widely available as the site continues to grow.

The AHPA Botanical Identity References Compendium is a centralized source of information containing both examples and techniques which have been successfully applied to authenticate and qualify selected botanical materials. These techniques are provided as a service to the trade and to further the production of high quality botanical commodities.

Currently, the AHPA Botanical Identity References Compendium is adding entries for the most commonly traded and commercially used botanical ingredients, as well as other botanicals selected both under judgment of professional botanical analysts as well as through user requests and interest surveys.

Entries contain resources including:

  • Botanical Microscopy References
  • High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography Techniques
  • Organoleptic Properties
  • Discussion of Potential Adulterants

We appreciate your interest in this important project. If you have comments, would like to participate, or wish to have your contact information recorded for further news and announcements, please contact Merle Zimmermann at the American Herbal Products Association.

After you are signed in with your user credentials, you have several potential destinations:

The Botanical.pngBotanical Category Listing has a list of the current botanicals in the Compendium.

The Microscope.pngMicroscopy Category Listing or HPTLC.pngHigh Performance Thin Layer Chromatography Category Listing are also available if you're looking for something more specific.

We also reproduce here AHPA's Known Adulterant Guidances and associated white papers discussing practical authentication methods for select botanicals.

If you are in possession of interesting data which you feel would be appropriate for the site, or have suggestions for additional botanical entries, please visit our Community portal for information on how you can contribute to its growth.
